Our players are already making a meaningful impact in Calgary’s community and we’re going to up our game.
Our mission is to build a community where every connection inspires and every individual feels a sense of belonging—through a shared culture of connection and impact.
We’ve identified three core Pillars to achieve our mission.
Pillar #1: Cultivating health and strengthening community through volunteer engagement and partnerships with children’s health programs.
For many years our players have volunteered time with the Kid’s Cancer Care Society and Heart & Stroke Foundation. We want to expand our reach with other organizations and have plans to host a Dinos Charity Sports Day where athletes engage in fundraising activities to raise funds for local children’s health initiatives, partnering with health-focused groups to bring children with health challenges to Dinos games and growing a mentorship program where athletes volunteer at health clinics.
.
Pillar #2: Building cultural connections and partnerships with Indigenous communities to foster inclusivity and respect.
We’ve previously run basketball camps with the Siksika Nation co-developed with their community leaders and will continue this tradition. We aim to expand our work with Indigenous leaders to integrate cultural values and community needs into basketball and educational programs; organize an Annual Indigenous Basketball Week with games, skills clinics and cultural exchange events; and highlight Indigenous athletes as positive role models to inspire Indigenous youth.
Pillar #3: Advancing basketball development to ensure programs are accessible to youth of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
For decades Dinos summer basketball clinics have been a core program to develop the game in Calgary and the team has also run camps throughout the years for disadvantaged youth. We will continue running this program to create Future Dinos. We are also planning initiatives to partner with the STEM Charter School to reinforce basketball as a path to balance academic pursuits and physical activity; hosting Open Courts for youth to meet and engage with our players; and digital storytelling portal to share stories of growth, achievements and community contributions from the entire Dinos family to reinforce our reputation as a community-driven program.
