The Sixth Man Club Mentorship Program is a unique program supporting our athletes.

The mentorship program between alumni and current Dinos players has been an annual cornerstone of the program in a lot of ways – player development, alumni engagement, recruiting tool, and much more. Since Dan took over as Head Coach, I benefitted from it as a player, and have enjoyed being a part of the official alumni community now. Generally, the main area of mentorship tends to be career-oriented, but can extend to all facets of life – really, whatever the players need.

How It Works

Recognizing the 2024 / 2025 Mentors

We create individual mentorship pairings for the upperclassmen on the roster - players who are in their 3rd year of studies. This is where player engagement is higher as they become more focused on career aspirations post graduation. For the younger players, we have group pairings to provide general assistance in the transition to University. We cater the level of support based on each players. Some need more. Some are already very career focused. We let the player take responsibility for their level of engagement with their Mentor(s).

We have regular events throughout the season to create a less formal setting between the players to become comfortable with the Mentors and just get to know Alumni. They can see we are there to support them.

Players will have regular meetings through the year with their Mentors using a cadence that makes sense for them. These are one one one meetups that can be over a coffee or lunch. The players have a trusted voice, who’s not a coach, they can talk to that understands the experience of a student athlete.

When players identify specific career paths they wish to explore and/or embark upon, the mentor will tap into our network for Alumni and Supporters to setup meetings to help the player understand a career path and network to pursue internships, summer employment opportunities and career opportunities.

When the player graduates, we encourage them to become active within our Alumni network to leverage the experiences of past players and supporters. And we also ask them to “pay it forward”.

If a player demonstrates a strong interest in a subject or activity that aligns with your unique skills and substantial experience, you will have the opportunity to provide valuable guidance. This mentorship experience can significantly enhance both personal and professional growth for everyone involved, fostering development and building meaningful connections.
